How Much Do Hair Extensions Cost?

Hair extensionsIf you’re considering changing your style, one of the first questions that probably comes to mind is how much do hair extensions cost? This isn’t a question that can be answered without first asking a few other questions. After all, what hair extensions cost will depend on the material of the fibers, the length, the method of application, as well as several other factors.

What hair extensions cost can vary quite widely. For example, synthetic hair is substantially cheaper than human hair. Furthermore, virgin hair (also known as raw hair, which means that it is untreated) will be more expensive than other types. However, overall, you can guess how much hair extensions cost based on the method used to apply it to the head.

The cheapest kind of hair extensions are clip-ons, which are only a temporary method. The take a few minutes to attach and must be removed by the end of the night. As the name implies, they are attached using clips and can range in price from $20 to $269 for a complete kit.

Bonded hair extensions will last between two and six months and are hot-glued to the real hair at the level of the scalp. This is the traditional method used for attaching hair extensions and will usually cost about $300.

Cold fusion hair extensions are a new method and are more gentle on hair than the hot bonding. They cost between $1,500 and $3,500.

A weave involves a higher hair extensions cost than the traditional bonding, but is much easier to care for.   It involves braiding the hair extensions underneath the natural hair. It will generally cost around $1,200.

There are salons that will offer the application of hair extensions at a much lower price, just as there are those that will charge much more. These prices will increase or decrease depending on the kind of hair you choose. Before you look at what hair extensions cost and try to save some money, though, make certain that the hair stylist you’re considering is qualified and experienced, especially in the method you’re selecting.

Look for a licensed cosmetologist, even if it means paying a bit more than a hairdresser who works out of his or her home but who is not licensed.
